Adult Safety Training Requirement
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding adult snowmobilers
to take the Adult Snowmobile Safety courses now starting across the state to
keep themselves safe and legal this winter and to reduce the number of people
killed or injured on Minnesota trails. Effective October 1, 2002, any resident
born after December 31, 1976 must have a snowmobile safety certificate to operate
a snowmobile anywhere in Minnesota. This requirement was passed by the legislature
in 1997 after the deadly winter of 1996-97 in which 32 snowmobile fatalities were
recorded. For more information on the dates and locations of these courses, click
